Refurbished and Remanufactured Office Systems

Although the basic structure of office furniture has a long life span, the fabric or style wears out or becomes outdated. When purchasing office furniture and panel systems, evaluate the cost savings and environmental benefits of buying reused or recycled-content office furniture and paneling systems as described below. Look for high-quality, classic furniture that will last without looking dated. Low cost products can sometimes equal low quality. Low-cost products may break more readily and may not be repaired easily.

Remanufactured/Refurbished Office Furniture
Remanufactured office furniture has had value added to the product. The furniture is typically completely disassembled, and parts inspected, cleaned, repaired or replaced, reassembled and refinished to "like-new" conditions. Refurbished office furniture has value added to the product by being "touched-up" or cosmetically improved, then returned to the market for resale. Be aware that the two terms have slightly different meanings, but are used interchangeably in many situations.

Performance
Remanufactured furniture is reassembled to look and perform like new. Many remanufacturers include warranties on refurbished office furniture, guaranteeing customers a quality product. Remanufacturers/refurbishers can offer a variety of colors, fabrics, and styles.

Cost
Used office furniture can offer tremendous cost savings over buying new. Buying remanufactured/refurbished office furniture offers savings of 50% to 70% of the cost of new furniture.
